Mommies & Muffins
AND
Daddies & Donuts!
On Mommies and Muffin Day, mommies were invited at the end of the day to join their child for the last 90 minutes of the day. In preparing for this day, children made a variety of muffins. Children gained knowledge reading the recipe of the box, cracking eggs, measuring water, mixing and the like. On the following day, we divided our two kindergarten classes into two centers: A Coffee/Craft Shoppe and A Salon. WHAT? Yes, the boys from the two K classes took their mommies into the salon. They brushed their hair, put hair ribbons in their hair, rubbed lotion on their arms and painted their nails. The girls pretended to be waitresses at the Coffee Shoppe and while practicing proper manners and etiquette served their mommies muffins. The mommies were asked to get their own coffee because it is a hot beverage. The girls joined their mommies with their muffins and juice boxes. While they ate their muffins, a slideshow of our children appeared on the screen. Afterwards, the mommies joined their daughters to color mommy picture frames. Then the groups switched! Pictures of mommies with their child was taken in the Salon for their craft. Last but not least, we took a group picture on the playground. Finally mommies joined their children play on the playground.
Daddies and Donuts begins with children making donuts the day before. Donuts are enjoyed on picnic tables outside. Once again the children practice proper manners and etiquette while serving their daddies. Then the kiddos and their daddies work on daddy picture frames. At this point, the teacher are taking pictures of daddy and kiddo. Last but the not least the daddies play a kickball game with their children; one class against the other or boys against girls with their daddies!
If a child does not have a mommy available, grandmas and aunts are welcome. Likewise grandpas and uncles are invited to Daddies and Donuts. Our aides and volunteer classroom special teachers are invited to attend to serve as substitute mommies and daddies for those children who do not have any attendees.

How cute! I love the salon activity! Several of our Kindergarten teachers have muffins with mom and donuts with dad, but it's strictly a snack/visit before school. I bet your kiddos just loved this!
